Hakyō - 波響 - The Echo of Waves

1980〜1990年代頃の西陣織と推定される帯を額装しました。西陣織らしい緻密な織りと上質な金銀糸によって、波文様の力強さと繊細さが美しく表現された一枚です。
「波文様」は、日本の伝統的な文様で、「生命のエネルギー」、「絶え間ない流れ＝永続性」、そして力強く生きる姿勢を表す縁起柄です。この帯に描かれている波は抽象的なデザインで、水墨画や浮世絵に見られるような”荒波”や”海のうねり”を彷彿させ、自然の壮大さや海の生命力を感じさせます。
飾る空間に、エネルギーと品格をもたらしてくれる一枚です。

This artwork features a fukuro obi (formal kimono sash) woven in Kyoto’s Nishijin district around the 1980s–1990s, now carefully framed as a piece of art. The fine weaving and luxurious gold and silver threads—hallmarks of Nishijin-ori—bring out both the power and delicacy of the wave motif in stunning detail.

Waves (nami) are a traditional and auspicious Japanese pattern symbolizing life force, continuity, and the ability to live with strength and grace. The abstract waves depicted in this piece recall the dynamic forms found in sumi-e (ink painting) and ukiyo-e woodblock prints, evoking the grandeur of nature and the vital energy of the sea.

This piece brings both vitality and elegance to any space it inhabits.
