Fukuju-nishiki – Brocade of Fortune & Longevity － 福寿錦

1970〜1990年代頃の西陣織と推定される袋帯を額装しました。錦織（にしきおり）の技法により、金銀糸や色糸を幾重にも織り込み、大輪の花々と幾何学文様を立体的に表現されています。描かれているのは”百花の王”と称される牡丹、菊や亀の甲羅に由来する亀甲（きっこう）文様。
牡丹は富貴・繁栄・幸福を、菊は不老長寿を、亀甲は安定と子孫繁栄を願う意味を持ちます。
深紅の地色に映える金箔糸の亀甲枠と、白・赤・水色・桃色の花々が調和し、華やかさと気品を併せ持つデザインです。幸福と長寿を願う意味から「福寿錦」と名付けました。

This framed piece is estimated to be a Nishijin-ori fukuro-obi woven in the 1970s–1990s.
Through the nishiki-ori brocade technique, layers of gold, silver, and colored threads are intricately woven to create a three-dimensional expression of bold floral motifs and geometric patterns.

Depicted are peonies—known as the “King of Flowers”—alongside chrysanthemums and the hexagonal kikkō pattern, inspired by a tortoise shell. The peony symbolizes wealth, prosperity, and happiness; the chrysanthemum, longevity; and the tortoise-shell motif, stability and the wish for descendants to flourish.

The shimmering gold-threaded hexagonal frames set against a deep crimson background, combined with blossoms in white, red, light blue, and pink, create a design that is both opulent and refined.
With its auspicious motifs wishing for happiness and long life, this piece has been named “Fukuju-nishiki” (Brocade of Fortune and Longevity).
