sensu -扇子-

昭和中期〜後期（1950〜80年代）に織られた西陣織の袋帯を使用しています。

黒地を背景に、菊や紅葉、梅の花など四季の花々があしらわれた扇子（せんす）の文様がいくつも重なり合う、華やかなデザイン。金糸や銀糸が織り込まれた扇子が連なることで優雅なリズムが生まれ、全体に動きと立体感が生まれています。

日本文化において扇子は、末広がりの形から「繁栄」や「発展」の象徴とされています。重なり合う扇子の柄には、「幸運の重なり」や「祝いの連なり」といった意味も込められ、慶事などにもふさわしい吉祥文様として古くから親しまれてきました。

This artwork features a Nishijin-ori fukuro-obi woven in the mid to late Showa era (1950s–1980s).

Set against a black background, the design depicts overlapping sensu (folding fans) adorned with seasonal motifs such as chrysanthemums, maple leaves, and plum blossoms. The fans, woven with gold and silver threads, create an elegant rhythm that brings movement and dimensionality to the piece.

In Japanese culture, the folding fan—sensu—is a traditional symbol of prosperity and growth, thanks to its wide-spreading shape. Patterns of overlapping fans are considered auspicious, representing layers of good fortune and the accumulation of joyful occasions, making them particularly suitable for celebratory settings.
