hakkaku -八角- Symbol of Good Fortune

昭和中期〜後期（1950〜80年代）に織られた西陣織の袋帯です。
八角形の中には、古来より縁起の良い植物とされる“笹の葉”が整然と配置され、金銀糸の光沢と幾何学的な構図が洗練された美を放ちます。八角形は、あらゆる方角に通じることから「調和」や「永遠」の象徴とされています。風水では「陰」と「陽」を併せ持ち、
バランスが良く安定した形から運気をアップさせる縁起の良いものとされているそうです。
漢字の「八」は昔から「末広がり」とも言われ、繁栄や幸運の意味も持っています。

現代空間にもモダンに映えるデザインとフォーマルな装いを彩った帯が、現代のアートとして新たな命を宿し、空間に静かな気品とリズムをもたらします。

This Nishijin-ori brocade was woven during the mid to late Showa era (1950s–1980s).

Within each octagon, sasa (bamboo leaves)—a plant traditionally considered auspicious in Japan—are neatly arranged. The gleaming gold and silver threads, combined with the geometric precision of the design, create a refined and elegant visual harmony. The octagon symbolizes "harmony" and "eternity," as it connects in all directions. In feng shui, the shape is believed to hold both yin and yang energies, making it a symbol of balance, stability, and good fortune. The kanji for "eight" (八), with its flared shape, has long been associated with prosperity and luck in Japanese culture.

This obi, once worn for formal occasions, now takes on a new life as a contemporary artwork. Its design, both timeless and modern, brings a quiet sense of elegance and rhythm to any space.
